Fursuit care instructions

FURSUIT CARE GUIDEThank you for purchasing a fursuit or fursuit part from Cuppuppy10Creations! Proper care is extremely important for keeping your suit clean, comfortable, and looking its best for as long as possible.Please read this entire guide before cleaning or washing your fursuit. Different parts of your suit are made from different materials and may require different cleaning methods.THE GOLDEN RULE: NO HEAT!DO NOT USE HEAT ON YOUR FURSUIT.This includes hot water, heated dryers, heated hair dryers, heat guns, irons, steamers, radiators, or leaving your suit in a hot car.Even though some fursuit parts may tolerate a dryer on a completely air-only/no-heat setting, heat can damage faux fur, adhesives, foam, paint, and other components.When in doubt, air dry it.BEFORE WEARING YOUR SUITBefore putting on your fursuit, make sure you are clean and completely dry.A balaclava is strongly recommended when wearing the fursuit head. A balaclava helps keep sweat, oils, and hair away from the inside of the head.For fullsuits and partials with bodysuits, wearing Under Armour or another breathable, moisture-wicking undergarment is strongly recommended. This helps keep sweat away from the suit and can make wearing the suit more comfortable.Brush the fur before major wears to make sure it is sitting properly and free of tangles or matting.Make sure all fans and batteries are functioning properly before wearing your suit.WHILE WEARING YOUR SUITFursuits can become extremely hot.Take regular breaks, drink plenty of water, and listen to your body.A handler is strongly recommended when wearing a fursuit in public, at conventions, or in unfamiliar environments.Remember that fursuits can reduce visibility, hearing, mobility, and your ability to communicate normally.Be aware of your surroundings and avoid dangerous environments while suited.Never push yourself through overheating, dizziness, nausea, weakness, confusion, or difficulty breathing.If you begin feeling unwell, remove the suit and cool down immediately.If your suit has a fan installed, use it as intended and make sure it has adequate battery power before wearing.AFTER EVERY WEARAfter wearing your fursuit, remove the head, paws, tail, bodysuit, and other parts and allow them to properly ventilate.Do not immediately put a sweaty or damp fursuit into a closed bag, container, or closet.Allow the suit to dry completely before storing it.A fan is strongly recommended and encouraged to help circulate air and speed up drying.For heads, leave the zipper open while drying whenever possible so air can circulate through the interior.If your suit has removable stuffing, you may remove it while drying when appropriate.Never store a damp fursuit.Moisture trapped inside foam, stuffing, lining, or fur can contribute to unpleasant odors, mold, and mildew.Cuppuppy10Creations is not responsible for mold, mildew, or damage caused by storing a wet or damp fursuit.BRUSHING YOUR FURRegular brushing helps prevent matting and keeps your fur looking fluffy.A slicker brush or another suitable pet brush may be used.Brush gently and avoid aggressively pulling on the fur.Brush in the direction that keeps the fur looking natural and smooth.Be especially careful around:* Sewn details
* Small markings
* Painted areas
* Eye areas
* Magnets
* Delicate glued details
* Minky
* Other non-fur materials
Do not aggressively brush areas that are not intended to be brushed.Brushing should generally be done before and after major wears, or whenever the fur becomes tangled or matted.FURSUIT SPRAY & DISINFECTINGFursuit spray may be used to help freshen and disinfect your suit between washes.If using a disinfecting spray, always follow the instructions for that product.Do not spray directly onto:* Eye mesh
* Painted eyes
* Electronics
* Batteries
* Exposed magnets
* Areas containing sensitive adhesives
* Any other area specifically marked as unsafe
Allow the suit to completely dry after spraying.Fursuit spray is not a replacement for properly washing your suit.WASHING YOUR FURSUITWhen washing your fursuit, use cold water.Avoid hot or very warm water.A small amount of gentle detergent may be used.Dawn dish soap may be used for appropriate spot-cleaning when necessary.Do not use bleach.Do not use harsh chemicals unless you know that they are safe for every material being cleaned.Do not use fabric softener unless specifically approved for the material being cleaned.When washing, be gentle. Excessive scrubbing, twisting, or pulling can damage fur, seams, glue, markings, and other components.Whenever possible, hand washing is the safest option for individual fursuit parts.FURSUIT HEAD CARE — UPHOLSTERY FOAM HEADSCuppuppy10Creations primarily uses approximately 1 1/2-inch upholstery foam for fursuit heads.The heads may also contain faux fur, minky, neoprene, hot glue, thread, nylon bonded thread, eye mesh, magnets, and other construction materials.NEVER PUT AN UPHOLSTERY-FOAM FURSUIT HEAD IN A WASHING MACHINE.The safest method is to spot clean or carefully hand clean the head.Use a damp cloth with a small amount of gentle soap or detergent and gently clean the fur.Do not aggressively scrub the fur.Avoid unnecessary soaking of the head.Pay particular attention to the interior because sweat and moisture can accumulate inside the head.The head may be carefully cleaned by hand when necessary, but it must be dried completely afterward.A fan is strongly recommended.Keep the head in a cool, well-ventilated area while drying.Do not use heat to speed up drying.NEVER PUT THE FOAM HEAD IN A HEATED DRYER.A hair dryer may only be used on a COLD/NO-HEAT setting and should be kept moving.When possible, air drying with a fan is preferred.3D-PRINTED HEAD CAREIf your Cuppuppy10Creations head uses a 3D-printed base rather than upholstery foam, the cleaning process may differ.3D-printed materials can tolerate different conditions than foam, but heat can still deform certain plastics and damage adhesives or other components.Use a damp cloth and gentle soap for exterior cleaning when appropriate.Do not aggressively scrub or soak areas containing electronics, magnets, glued components, or other sensitive materials.If the head contains padding, neoprene, fur, or other fabric materials, follow the care instructions for those materials as well.Allow the head to completely air dry in a cool, ventilated area.A fan may be used.DO NOT EXPOSE A 3D-PRINTED HEAD TO HIGH HEAT.Do not leave it in a hot car, near a heater, or in direct intense sunlight.If you are unsure how to clean your specific 3D-printed head, contact Cuppuppy10Creations before cleaning it.PAWSHand paws should be cleaned carefully by hand whenever possible.Machine washing hand paws is not recommended by Cuppuppy10Creations.If you choose to machine wash your paws anyway, you do so at your own risk.DO NOT PUT PAWS IN A HEATED DRYER.If you use a dryer, it must be on a NO-HEAT/AIR-ONLY setting, and air drying is still preferred.Make sure paws are completely dry before storing them.If your paws contain stuffing, remember that the inside may remain wet even when the outside feels dry.TAIL CARECuppuppy10Creations tails contain stuffing and have a zipper that allows the stuffing to be removed.When washing a tail, removing the stuffing first may make cleaning and drying easier.If the stuffing becomes wet, it must be allowed to dry completely before being placed back inside the tail.DO NOT STORE A TAIL WITH DAMP STUFFING INSIDE.A fan can be used to help dry the tail and its stuffing.Make sure the interior of the tail is completely dry before closing the zipper and storing it.OUTDOOR USEIf your fursuit paws or other parts are designed primarily for indoor use, wearing them outdoors is done at your own risk.Cuppuppy10Creations is not responsible for dirt, staining, damage, or excessive wear caused by outdoor use of parts not designed for outdoor conditions.Whenever possible, avoid:* Mud
* Snow
* Rain
* Wet grass
* Gravel
* Salt
* Dirty pavement
* Sharp surfaces
* Excessive moisture
If your fursuit becomes wet, allow it to completely dry before storing it.---PAINTED EYES & EYE CARECuppuppy10Creations uses eye mesh and, where applicable, acrylic paint sealed with spray-on Mod Podge.The painted portions of the eyes should be treated carefully.Do not scrub painted eye areas.Do not use harsh chemicals on painted eyes.Do not use hot water on painted eyes.Do not use heat on painted eyes.Avoid spraying cleaning or disinfecting products directly onto the eyes.If the eyes need cleaning, gently wipe them with an appropriate soft, slightly damp cloth.---MAGNETIC EYELIDSSome Cuppuppy10Creations heads may include magnetic eyelids.Handle magnetic eyelids gently.Do not force them into place.Keep magnets away from devices or objects that may be affected by strong magnets.If an eyelid becomes loose or a magnet appears to have shifted, contact Cuppuppy10Creations before attempting a repair.DRYINGAIR DRYING IS ALWAYS THE PREFERRED METHOD.Fans are strongly recommended.A cool/no-heat dryer setting may be used for certain parts at the owner's discretion, but HEAT MUST NOT BE USED.NEVER USE A HEATED DRYER.NEVER USE A HEAT GUN.NEVER USE AN IRON.NEVER USE A STEAMER.NEVER LEAVE YOUR SUIT IN A HOT CAR.NEVER PLACE YOUR SUIT DIRECTLY AGAINST A HEATER.Heat can damage faux fur, adhesives, foam, paint, plastics, and other components.STORAGEStore your fursuit in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location.Do not store your suit while it is damp.Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.Do not place heavy objects on top of your fursuit.Do not store the head in a position where it will be crushed or permanently compressed.Avoid tightly compressing fur for long periods of time.A breathable garment bag or another suitable storage solution is recommended.Do not leave your fursuit in a hot vehicle.Make sure the suit is completely dry before placing it into any enclosed storage container or bag.WHAT NOT TO DODO NOT:* Use heat on your fursuit
